A lot of us spend time every morning shading and perfecting the shape of our eyebrows. Some of us do not spend a day without doing our eyebrows, even if we are not wearing any more makeup. It’s no wonder since eyebrows are one of the most prominent facial features that help to frame the face and express ourselves.
Having perfect eyebrows does not have to involve a time-consuming task in our daily lives. Microblading has become very popular because it has changed the daily routine for the better of those who chose to try it. This article answers the most frequently asked questions about Microblading to provide an overview of the procedure.
What is Microblading?
You may have heard the term and seen microblading before and after photos, but do not really know what the treatment is. Put simply, it is a form of cosmetic tattoo that is semi-permanent. Using a handheld tool, your esthetician will create hair-like strokes to softly shade your eyebrows for a natural look. The pigment is implanted beneath the skin through tiny needles.
Does Microblading Hurt?
Topical anesthetics are applied to minimize any possible discomfort. Most people describe the pain as quick paper cuts or minor pressure, but everyone's pain tolerance is different.
How Long Does Microblading Take?
The thickness of the brows will impact how much needs to be done to give the desired results, which therefore varies the time it takes. Typically, your first microblading appointment will take approximately 2-3 hours and any touch-ups will take 1-2 hours.
What Can You Expect After the Appointment?
Right after your session, the colour of your eyebrows will look very bold, and the area may be swollen. This will improve within a few days. You will have mild soreness, crusting, and itching that can last up to 10 days.
As the crusted pigment falls off, your new, perfect eyebrows will be revealed. The colour will have faded to a more natural shade as intended. Your esthetician will discuss microblading aftercare with you to ensure that your eyebrows heal properly.
You will be told how to properly clean the area and a balm may be given to you to assist the healing process. For 7-10 days after the microblading session, you should avoid intense physical activity, excess sweating, and extreme heat. You will also be asked not to wear makeup on your brows and your forehead for at least 30 days following the procedure.
After your eyebrows have healed, it is recommended to choose to thread rather than waxing, as the latter may cause the pigment to fade faster. Threading will give you a clean shape without causing harm to your skin.
How Long Does It Last?
The results of microblading last an average of 1-3 years. Several factors affect the length of time before the pigment fades, such as sun exposure, products that are used in the area, aftercare, iron deficiencies, age, and skin type.
It is recommended to have touch-up sessions to refine the shape and replace any pigment as required. During your follow-up sessions, you may choose how bold or soft, and how defined or natural you want your eyebrows to be.
